Title: POOLs
Post by: Snailbrain on April 26, 2014, 12:39:25 PM
No fixed Bounty on this:

What is currently needed is a working p2pool node, and p2pool working with huntercoin, for both sha256 and scrypt - it seems normal p2pool users are unable to get it working out of the box - if we know what the issues are we can hopefully fix.

Also - Possibly some github repo of a working/modded pool which can be used for pool operators wanting to setup new pools (or upgrade old pools) that also merge mine Huntercoin.

Don't have much more information than this at this time - but if any pool specialists want to contribute they can send a PM or post here, and we can arrange a suitable bounty.

What kind of server resources/hardware would you expect from setting up a pool? I wanted to experiment with this in the past but never got to it, nor was as interested in a coin as this to where I might follow through with it.

I was giving it a good look over as well today, From what I seen it doesn't seem like it should be too much of a hassle to try it out.

For the pools, they would need merged mining otherwise pretty pointless.

Eligius and some others use https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=61731.0 - but afaik is modified somewhat,

P2Pool - seems simple to setup, (step by step guides) - seems most were unable to mine blocks (some did mine blocks at the start though).

-

One way to get people to p2pool mine seems to be to give bounties for everyone who shows/proves they merge mined a huntercoin block with another altcoin as parent chain (this is what united scrypt coin devs did).

need more peoples thoughts

Anyone wanting to add HUC to their mining pool or with p2pool,

Please report any problems here or on the forum somewhere - maybe i should create another thread later

I am working on this. I have a local p2pool up and mining BTC, with NMC and HUC merged. Getting 333MH/S on my blockerupter USB !!! :D

Am I correct in understanding that NMC (and HUC?) can no longer be solo-mined? (Merged only?)

If I am not able to set-up pure-HUC pools; I'd like to know what coins would have the most interest being mined along-side HUC in each algo. BTC/NMC/HUC? LTC/DOGE/HUC?

Sorry for the necromancy, but HUC needs to be undead. :D

Hi Mate, great work.

afaik, you should be able to solo mine but not sure what the point would be.

The issue is that i believe all merged mine coins, are as if being "solo mined". So basically you are not sharing the merged mined coins, i.e. harder to mine them.

We may need to change the algos and hardware/human mined distribution ratio soon.

do you have a lot of pool experience?

Hi Snailbrain,

Sorry for my delayed response. I've been very busy with local problems.

You are correct, but I've mined for pools that shared merged mining work between workers for coins like HUC and NMC the same way they do for Bitcoin. I think p2pool might actually be capable of this, but I will figure it out either way.

I am very interested in the Devs' thoughts on an algo / distribution change. Aside from the effects on my pool efforts, I am very curious to see what kinds of ideas the community comes up with.

You are looking at my pool experience, sir. First working pool, ever, in the making. :D
Not to worry, though. It's personal. I will figure it out. I just purchased a 1TB SSD raid-1 VPS for the occasion. It will be ready for me to begin deployment no later than March 1.
